SALINE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY TO RECEIVE AED FROM FERRELL HOSPITAL

10/25/2022

ELDORADO, IL –  Ferrell Hospital presented The Saline County Emergency Management Agency, or EMA, with an automated external defibrillator (AED) on Wednesday, September 14 at 10AM at Ferrell Hospital. Allen Ninness, Director of Emergency Management for Saline County EMA accepted the AED from Ferrell Hospital representatives, Amanda Goins, Ferrell Hospital Safety Coordinator, and Jessica Carter, Ferrell Hospital Director of Nursing.

Ferrell donated the Defibtech Lifeline AED to the Saline County EMA as a symbol of appreciation for the help that the agency provided during the Covid-19 pandemic. Not only did the agency help with disaster planning for the facility, but Allan Ninness brought personal protection equipment (PPE) like N95 masks, gowns, and gloves. Ninness also helped with requesting needed equipment from the state (ventilators and bipap machines), plus helped obtain additional staff through the state to help with outpatient monoclonal antibody infusions (COVID treatment) which included a respiratory therapist.

“We are very appreciative of the work and support from the Saline County Emergency Management Agency, specifically Allen Ninness, who went above and beyond to help Ferrell Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hope is that this AED will help them give back to the community in the future,” Jessica Carter, Ferrell Hospital Director of Nursing.

An AED is a portable device that can send an electric shock to the heart in an attempt to restore normal heart rhythm. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Sudden cardiac arrest usually causes death if it’s not treated within minutes. Using an AED on a person having SCA may save the person’s life.
